Therapeutic teeth treatment

Therapeutic dentistry helps to keep your teeth healthy without surgery for as long as possible.

Therapeutic dentistry includes:

  • Dental fillings
  • Aesthetic dental fillings
  • Endodontic root canal treatment
  • Endodontic root canal re-treatment

Dental fillings are the most frequently performed procedure at the dentists. They are necessary when tooth decay has damaged tooth enamel and there is caries cavity, in other words a hole in a tooth. Teeth are filled in order to preserve their hard tissues and to prevent the access of micro organisms to the internal structures of the tooth - the bone tissue.

Damaged teeth, without a filling, can become sensitive, painful, and break. After some time damaged teeth may need to be removed. In order to restore teeth, we use the most modern and restorative materials. Using our X-Ray machine, we are to detect signs of damaged teeth beyond any visible areas including any initial development of caries.

Many patients with older amalgam fillings also prefer replacing them with white composite, for not only cosmetic reasons but any health concerns about the safety of amalgam (under the guidance of the British Dental Association, amalgam is perfectly safe). Unlike silver amalgam fillings, white fillings are bonded to the teeth so that they can be used to repair the tooth. This is especially effective for any front teeth that have become chipped or broken, but may also be used on the back teeth as long as there is not too much decay or damage.

Endodontic treatment is necessary when tooth decay extends to the pulp of the tooth (the vascular and nerve fibre optic inside of the tooth). The earliest symptoms of infection or inflammation in the damaged pulp – prolonged sensitivity to heat, cold or sweet, discoloration of the tooth, swelling of the gums and their sensitivity near inflamed or infected tooth.

Root canal treatment may be needed after trauma such as split or broken teeth. Its main purpose is to destroy micro organisms in root canal system and protect the tooth and surrounding tissues from infection.

During the treatment, X-Rays of the dental root are made, then the root canals are cleaned, disinfected, and hermetically filled. If the patient wishes, during the procedure anaesthesia can be applied. Most often, endodontic treatment is carried out during several visits to the dentist. But any teeth healed by this method can function well for a lifetime.
